Skin Anatomy and Physiology

Explain the structure and function of Epidermis, Dermis and Sub cutis; and State functions of skin, difference between Melanocytes and Langerhans cells, Structure of the skin – epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous layer, hair follicle, hair shaft, sebaceous gland, arrector pili muscle, sweat gland, and sensory nerve ending. Functions of the skin – protection, thermoregulation, hormone synthesis, excretion, immunological function, and sensory function Reading sessions on the terms used for describing the structure of skin. Writing sessions on the terms used for describing the structure of skin, Group activities on understanding the structure and functions of skin.

Skin Analysis

Characteristics of the skin and skin types – oily, dry, combination skin, .
